About

The gym is a distribution channel

outlift.lol is a public leaderboard for people who are building something and training anyway. Connect your WHOOP, pin your product to your name, and let the strain, recovery and sleep you already logged argue on your behalf.

Every row is a link. Rank higher and more people follow it. There is exactly one way up, and it is not a budget: train better than the person above you.

The one to beat is whoever is currently top of the board you are looking at — nobody is nominated. Change the window or the sort and that is a different person, and every row below them is told exactly how far behind it is.

What you actually get

Attention, and a number for it. Your listing carries your product, your tagline and your link, and the board counts every visit it sends you. It is the only marketing channel that also makes you fitter.

Why it isn't a WHOOP Team

WHOOP Teams live inside the WHOOP app and are not exposed through the API — there is no endpoint for a team, a group or a leaderboard, and nothing to scrape. So this board is rebuilt from scratch: every member authorises their own account, and the roster lives here rather than inside WHOOP.

Your data

Nothing is public until you tick the opt-in box, which is deliberately separate from the WHOOP authorisation screen. We store the daily strain, recovery and sleep figures needed to rank you, and nothing else. Disconnecting revokes access at WHOOP and deletes what we stored — your row disappears with it.

Founder health

The people this board is for are the ones most likely to break

Founders are not a healthy population, and the numbers are not close. Researchers at UCSF and Berkeley surveyed 242 entrepreneurs against 93 demographically matched comparisons. Among the entrepreneurs, 49% reported one or more lifetime mental health conditions, 32% two or more and 18% three or more — significantly more than the comparison group, with higher lifetime depression (30%), ADHD (29%), substance use (12%) and bipolar diagnosis (11%). One figure did not move: anxiety, at 27% against 26%. This is not a story about worrying more than other people.

A 2024 survey of more than 400 founders found 72% reporting an impact on their mental health, 44% under high stress and 36% burnt out — and 81% not really open about any of it. Only one in ten takes it to an investor. Three quarters never get professional help.

The physical half is not softer. The WHO and the ILO put working 55 hours or more a week at a 35% higher risk of stroke and a 17% higher risk of dying of heart disease than working 35 to 40.

None of which is abstract. It arrives on the timeline most weeks.

    I pushed myself too far.

Last night, stress sent me to the hospital.

It was a reminder that no startup, no deadline, and no amount of pressure is worth trying to handle everything at once.

    Health comes first ❤️

    Yes, I am an idiot.

    It's not a company's fault I'm stressed.

It's just the way I am.

I'm either 0% or 110%, no in between.

But this is also how I built a SaaS to $30k/mo and graduated Uni with top grades.

    I'm neurotic and it works.

But being neurotic also has downsides, like this.

I'm going for a baseline health checkup in Bangkok next week anyway, so will be interesting to share.

Stay balanced guys, much love ❤️

I see this happen every month now.

    Several times a week sometimes.

I’m no one to give advice but I’ve been to dark places and found inner peace 5 years ago. I thought I could share what helped me.

    “

    You’re going to die.

Your startup is going to 0.

    And no one will care.

    “

I repeat this in my head every day so I don’t get emotional about my work. No expectations = no disappointment.

    “Money doesn’t buy happiness”

All rich people say this and of course I didn’t believe them. Until I made enough money to not think about money. Now I realize how true this is. The good news: you don’t need much! Past $10k/month, money doesn’t change your happiness. You’re much closer than that you think.

    Health

    Gym energizes me

    Good sleep makes me focus

Too much social media = “I’m a loser”

Health is this cheat code that’s hard to crack but once you do, it makes everything else much easier.

I’ve been following the same rules for the last 5 years, way before my apps started to make money:

I always workout 1hr before work

I away turn off the laptop at 6PM

I never turn on my phone in the AM

Never trade your health for your work.

And finally, have fun! Smile! Entrepreneurship is just a game built for adults.

People can sense who’s having fun, so in the end, it can even help you reach your goals faster 😊

What helps is unglamorous and well evidenced. Pooling 15 prospective studies across 191,130 adults, the recommended volume of activity — about two and a half hours of brisk walking a week — came out associated with a 25% lower risk of depression. The steep part of that curve is between nothing and something. You do not have to become an athlete. You have to stop being sedentary.

Which is why the board is scored the way it is. Strain is capped, and grinding past the cap buys nothing. Half the score is not strain at all: recovery is worth 300 points and sleep 200, out of 1000. A rest day is not a zero. You cannot win this by destroying yourself, and that was a decision rather than an accident — the arithmetic is on the ranking page.

A leaderboard is not medicine. If you are somewhere near where those posts are describing, the useful next call is to a doctor, not to a scoreboard.
